Values and Ethos - REACH

At Avonbourne, our REACH values are the foundation of our ethos and the shared language through which we develop character. They shape how we learn, how we interact, and how we contribute to our school and wider community.

These values underpin everything we do at Avonbourne Academies. Our curriculum, enrichment, and leadership opportunities are intentionally designed to develop not only academic success, but also the character qualities needed for students to flourish as individuals.
Through REACH, we actively nurture key traits such as integrity, resilience and empathy, enabling our students to grow into responsible, confident young people who are prepared to make a positive contribution as citizens and future employees.

We actively engage families in our REACH values, recognising that strong partnerships between school and home are key to developing character across our wider community.

REACH in Action: Recognition and Celebration
At Avonbourne, we believe that character is strengthened through recognition, encouragement and celebration. We proactively identify and celebrate students who embody our REACH values in their daily actions.

Our REACH rewards system recognises students who consistently demonstrate our values in their approach to learning, relationships and wider school life. This includes:
  • REACH points awarded for positive contributions, effort and attitude
  • Praise postcards and messages home to celebrate achievements with families
  • Phone calls home to recognise exceptional effort or progress
  • Awards assemblies highlighting students who embody our values
  • Trips, enrichment opportunities and events that celebrate commitment and engagement
Through this approach, we reinforce the importance of character, motivate students to strive for excellence, and ensure that positive behaviours are recognised, valued and celebrated across our school community.

Flourishing Through Character
By embedding REACH across all aspects of school life, we ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to thrive. Our approach enables students to leave Avonbourne not only with strong academic outcomes, but also as well-rounded individuals with integrity, resilience and empathy, ready to contribute positively to society.

The Avonbourne Way

We believe that positive learning experiences require a positive culture. We want our students to be able to learn in an environment where they feel safe and happy but are also challenged to be the best version of themselves. Our culture is based upon the seven principles of the Avonbourne Way.

We treat the Avonbourne Way as our behaviour curriculum and believe that it is as important as our academic curriculum. We expect our students to model these behaviours and attitudes, not only in the classroom, but also when in the corridors, playgrounds, sports fields and out in the wider community. We are passionate that our students should not only leave with excellent academic outcomes, but also the values and personal skills that will enable them to contribute to society and live happy fulfilling lives.
